Tourism businesses lack quality personnel
19/04/2022In Nghe An, the system of hotels and restaurants in tourist locations also struggles with the lack of human resources.
Vo Huy Tuan, Director of Muong Thanh Cua Lo Hotel, said that at the time of the Covid-19 outbreak, this hotel had more than 100 employees. However, after the epidemic, the unit only has about 70% of employees, the rest quit or transferred jobs (mainly in the restaurant department, room). The addition of new trained human resources when the tourism sector recovers is a difficult issue.
“Cua Lo tourism has had a positive signal as the number of visitors increases on holidays and weekends. However, the difficulties of many hotels and tourist service units are human resources, especially those with expertise, ”Tuan said.
Tuan also acknowledged that the recruitment of more trained workers will be difficult to ensure, so the unit also expanded the reception of records for employees who are both studying and working, “hands on” such as room staff or running tables. However, for the kitchen staff is the most difficult issue because in addition to their basic expertise, they need experience. The unit has provided the most preferential salary and security for the recruitment of employees in this field but still does not ensure adequate personnel.
Director of the Department of Tourism Nguyen Nghe An Manh Cuong said that after 2 years of tourism “freezing”, tourism human resources in the locality are both lacking and weak. However, enterprises still have a lot of time to prepare highly skilled human resources to serve tourism in the new normal conditions.
“Before the 2022 tourism season, Nghe An tourism sector has plans and plans to be a bridge for enterprises; tourism service business establishments in cooperation with universities, colleges and vocational training centers recruit students to study in tourism in order to increase human resources for tourism in the peak months,” he said.
According to the leaders of Nghe An Department of Tourism, during Hung Vuong Mass (from April 9 – 11), the whole province welcomes and serves more than 150,000 tourist visitors, of which, the number of guests staying is estimated at 120,000. Thanks to the large number of guests, the accommodation capacity is 55-60%, Cua Lo coastal 3-5 star hotels alone have a capacity of 80-90%. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 120 billion.
What is the solution for tourism human resources?
Talking to Zing, Mr. Dinh Manh Thang, Chairman of Thua Thien-Hue Tourism Association, said that when tourism returns, the top issue is human resources, because this sector is characterized by human resources serving more than half of product quality.

According to Mr. Thang, this is a problem posed to travel agencies, business units. If this is not resolved, the quality of service will decrease and guests risk not returning.
To solve the problem of tourism personnel, the Chairman of Thua Thien-Hue Tourism Association said that enterprises need to have good policies to call for retired employees to return, invest more funds to train new human resources and link tourism schools for students to work at the facilities. However, the customer market must be stable.
Without stopping at human resources, Mr. Thang said another important thing that greatly affects the quality of tourism is facilities. After 2 years of service, hotels need to be inspected and maintained to serve guests.
“The influx of visitors after Lunar New Year, festivals are a challenge for Thua Thien-Hue tourism industry. This is a two-edged knife because the visitors are crowded and the shortage of human resources will lead to a reduced quality of service, “Mr. Thang said.
